Although AI is increasingly implemented in healthcare, little is known about how the public assigns accountability to hospitals following AI-involved adverse events. We found that, compared to adverse events involving a human physician alone, participants attributed more responsibility to hospitals and reported a higher likelihood of filing a complaint and pursuing legal action when adverse events involved AI. However, when physicians interactively collaborated with AI, negative reactions toward hospitals were attenuated.
