Key Points

  • This study aims to evaluate the effects of the etonogestrel contraceptive implant on women's sexuality and overall quality of life.
  • Conducted a randomized trial involving women using the etonogestrel implant.
  • Assessed sexual function using FSFI and quality of life with WHOQOL.
  • Performed multivariate regression analysis to determine predictors of changes in quality of life.
  • Etonogestrel implant did not alter women's sexual function.
  • Adverse effects of the implant had no significant impact on overall quality of life.
  • FSFI satisfaction significantly predicted improvements in the psychological domain of WHOQOL.

Abstract

< .05). In multivariate regression analysis, the FSFI satisfaction domain was an independent predictor of improvement in the psychological domain of the WHOQOL. These findings highlight the need for comprehensive counseling regarding potential adjustments in well-being after implant insertion. The etonogestrel contraceptive implant did not alter women's sexual function, and its adverse effects did not impact their overall quality of life. The method was well accepted by the participants.
