Abstract

Personal Knowledge Management (PKM) literature aimed at adult academic and professional readers — Luhmann's original Zettelkasten as documented archivally by Schmidt 1, Ahrens's How to Take Smart Notes 2, Forte's PARA and Building a Second Brain 3, 4, Matuschak's evergreen-notes corpus 5, and Doto's 2024 system-for-writing synthesis 6 — has shaped a generation of digital note-takers but is not directly usable by a Vietnamese learner aged 14–18 executing a single capstone or science-fair project. The discipline overhead is calibrated for a multi-decade doctoral practice; the cultural assumptions are drawn from Western individualist research norms; the institutional context assumes researcher-grade autonomy over time allocation. This paper specifies a six-pattern PKM pattern set — Atomic-Vietnamese-Notes (P1), CapstonePARA (P2), Project-Lifecycle-Folders (P3), Reference-CaptureDiscipline (P4), Spaced-Review-Hook (P5), Cross-Project-Linking (P6) — engineered for the operational scope of a Vietnamese upper-secondary learner on a one-year project horizon. The patterns are derived by a four-step synthesis: corpus selection from canonical PKM and Vietnamese-context literatures, pattern-extraction against four inclusion criteria (operational at one-year horizon, friction-bounded for non-PhD audience, culturally compatible with Confucian-heritage learning, vaulttool-substrate-independent), simplification rule against a fixed budget of named constructs per pattern, and a cultural-fit test that explicitly checks each pattern against the Confucian-heritage paradox literature 7, 8, 9.
