Key Points

  • This research aims to evaluate eco-friendly corrosion inhibitors derived from natural sources, particularly orange peel powder.
  • Investigated the corrosion inhibition properties of orange peel powder and other natural compounds.
  • Evaluated the effectiveness of these natural inhibitors compared to traditional synthetic inhibitors.
  • Conducted assessments on the biodegradability and cost-effectiveness of the natural options.
  • Natural inhibitors significantly reduced corrosion rates on metal surfaces compared to synthetic options.
  • Orange peel powder showed substantial protective effects, enhancing sustainability and reducing environmental risks.
  • Overall findings suggest that natural substances can serve as effective substitutes for toxic inhibitors.

Abstract

Corrosion is a major issue affecting metals, leading to economic loss and structural damage. Traditional corrosion inhibitors such as hexamethylene diamine (HMDA) are effective but pose environmental and health risks due to their toxicity and non-biodegradability. This study explores the use of orange peel powder and other natural substances as eco-friendly corrosion inhibitors. Orange peel contains bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, polyphenols, and ascorbic acid, which form a protective layer on metal surfaces and reduce corrosion rates. The results suggest that natural inhibitors are cost-effective, biodegradable, and sustainable alternatives to synthetic chemicals.
