Abstract

The Dynamic Ensemble-based Scenarios for IDSS (DESI) tool, developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Global Systems Laboratory (GSL), allows National Weather Service (NWS) forecasters to rapidly examine large ensemble-based datasets and create probabilistic Impact-based Decision Support Services (IDSS). This report details the findings of the first formal, user-centered evaluation of DESI, conducted through semi-structured interviews with 45 meteorologists from all six NWS regions and National Centers (NCs), as well as one non-NWS meteorologist, between May and July 2024.
