Primary Healthcare and Gender Equality: Are Preventive Services Truly Balanced?

Primary healthcare services are the primary implementers of preventive health practices, but it is noteworthy that these services have historically been structured with a focus on women's and children's health. Despite significant gains in maternal and child health and reproductive health, the prioritization of healthcare services has reduced men's access to preventive healthcare to a non-systematic level. The structural imbalance in the gender-based delivery of preventive services in primary care has potential consequences for early diagnosis and equality in healthcare services. The development of structured preventive service packages and performance indicators for men should be considered as policy tools to strengthen gender equality in primary care.
