Key Points

  • This research aims to develop a deep learning-based method for segmenting internal reflection patterns in concrete using phased array ultrasonic testing images.
  • Utilized phased array ultrasonic testing images to identify defects, rebar, and boundary reflections.
  • Created a multi-class labeled dataset for training using pixel-wise labeling.
  • Employed a U-Net model and conducted performance comparison analysis using 5-fold cross-validation.
  • Achieved the highest performance with a combined loss function of Dice loss and Weighted Cross-Entropy, with an average Dice coefficient of 0.781 excluding background class.
  • Defect and boundary reflection segmentation showed stable performance, while rebar reflection segmentation was comparatively challenging.
