Research on the Influence of Chemical Fertilization and Soil Type on Soil Characteristics in Different Cultivated Maize Areas of Mureș County

Abstract

The study took place between 2022 and 2023, on three different soil types in Mureș County, Romania under three fertilization treatments: V1:20-20-0+UREA; V2:20-20-0+NAC27 and V3:20-20-0 (Control), in 3 experimental variants cultivated with maize. The chemical properties monitored were soil pH, as it plays a critical role in yield and CaCO3 soil content. The obtained results were statistically correlated with pH values. Between studied parameters and fertilization system, no significant difference was found as compared to the control and the applied fertilization system had the same impact in the pH value and CaCO3 content. Among the different soil types, the calcaric fluvisol had the highest pH and CaCO3 content while the molic luvisol had the lowest pH and CaCO3, compared to control variant. The impact of pH and calcium carbonate (CaCO3) on maize growth is a significant consideration, as these factors can influence nutrient availability in the soil, thereby impacting both growth rates and yields. These findings suggest that, under similar soil and environmental conditions, adjusting fertilization strategies may have limited effects on soil pH and CaCO3 balance, emphasizing the importance of selecting crop varieties and management practices suited to existing soil characteristics.
