Abstract

Thirty-four years ago, Dr Waldo E. Nelson assumed the editorship of the pediatric textbook that has borne his name since the fourth edition came out in 1945. He followed Drs J. P. Crozer Griffith and A. Graeme Mitchell, who published the very first volume in 1933. This tenth edition of the Nelson Textbook of Pediatrics, which comes six years after the last revision, is unique in that the editorship has again been passed on. The new editors, both former contributors and associate editors, are Dr Victor C. Vaughan III, Professor and Chairman of Pediatrics at Temple University, Philadelphia, and Dr R. James McKay, Professor and Chairman of Pediatrics at the University of Vermont in Burlington. Doctor Nelson, who is also Professor of Pediatrics at Temple, served as Consulting Editor.
