Abstract

Abstract The evolution of an arbitrary perturbation in the gravitational field outside of but near the surface of a rapidly rotating black hole is examined. The spectrum of the ensuing gravitational radiation, when detected far from the black hole, has sharp maxima at specific, resonant frequencies of the black hole.
