The cognitive potential of the principle of catholicity is analyzed, as it revealed in the social philosophy of Semen L. Frank and some other Russian thinkers. The concept of catholicity is presented as an explanatory model for social phenomena which, according to the philosopher, have a spiritual and moral basis. The ontological foundations of understanding of social action are considered in the context of the concept of Semen Frank.
