Abstract

Travel range anxiety has been a big obstacle to the popularization of electric vehicles (EVs). On the other hand, with the increasing penetration of EVs, dynamic wireless charging has become an emerging application in terms of intelligent transportation systems and smart grids. In this paper, a planning model for dynamic wireless charging systems (DWCS) is proposed. First, a DWCS-integrated user-equilibrium (UE) model is proposed to assign the traffic flow in transportation networks. The traffic assignment model considers the charging requirement and range anxiety of EVs. Range anxiety refers to concerns about the potential for running out of battery power. Then, the DWCS-integrated UE model is embedded in the DWCS planning scheme. The placement of dynamic wireless power transfer (DWPT) facilities and the scale of inverters are determined by the formulated bi-level optimization. The coordinated planning model of DWCS and electricity networks is proposed by comprehensively considering the geographical and electrical characteristics of the DWPT facilities and the inverters. The formulated nonlinear mixed-integer bi-level optimization problem is solved according to a branch and bound algorithm, and the ε convergence to the global optimality will be guaranteed. The proposed method is verified in case studies. According to the simulation results, the proposed planning model can effectively reduce the range anxiety
