Summary report on the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into state capture

This compilation is a summary of the more than 5,000 pages of reports released to both President Ramaphosa and the public over the past six months. The summary serves the purpose of providing a condensed version of the outputs of the Commission which offers an easy reference for public consumption, including politicians, business persons, academia, civil society, and the media. This summary is not a legal document; nor can it be used for legal purposes. Should there be any inconsistency between this report and the official version, the official version overrides what is contained in this report. Some changes have been made in the editing and formatting of this compilation by the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) research team for ease of reading, making it more accessible to non-experts who are interested in a state capture narrative that has gripped the public���s attention for so long. The process of summarising, simplifying and restructuring the individual reports took place over a period of about nine months with four iterations. Each researcher who worked on these documents took an oath of secrecy in front of Chief Justice Zondo and signed a confidentiality agreement. Throughout the life of the Commission numerous investigators and other legal professionals and researchers made a contribution to the success of the Commission. The HSRC is proud to have been part of this momentous journey.
