Unusual Presentation of Ear Swelling: A Rare Case of Schwannoma of the External Auditory Canal with Mandibular and Bony Canal Destruction

Abstract Swelling of the external ear and auditory canal can arise from the various types of etiologies, including viral, inflammatory, and neoplastic conditions, which makes diagnosis challenging. Due to the overlap in clinical features, physical examination alone is often not enough to determine the exact cause. Rarely, benign tumors such as Schwannoma may also develop in this region. Accurate diagnosis requires a combination of imaging, histopathological examination, and immunohistochemistry. This study highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary approach including otoscopic evaluation, radiographic imaging, and tissue analysis for proper diagnosis and treatment planning. This case report describes the case of a 36-year-old woman diagnosed with a Schwannoma in her right external auditory canal. It emphasizes the challenges and potential difficulties in accurately diagnosing these rare tumors.
