Abstract

The development of wind turbines is a key pathway for achieving China’s “dual carbon” goals and promoting high-quality socio-economic growth. However, onshore wind turbine projects in China must contend with highly complex and extreme environments, including high-altitude regions, cold alpine zones, desert and Gobi areas, remote barren terrains, mountainous regions, and low–wind-speed sites. Offshore wind turbine deployment faces even greater challenges due to harsh meteorological and marine conditions, strong seismic activity, and complex geological and hydrological environments. To meet the requirements of grid parity, wind turbine construction is rapidly evolving toward large scales, higher capacities, and accelerated development. Nevertheless, many critical technical challenges remain unresolved. Through close collaboration with major wind turbine enterprises, Chongqing University has conducted extensive research and engineering practice in several, including wind turbine tower structures, offshore converter stations, integrated vibration-control and seismic-resilience technologies, offshore hydraulic piling hammers, and offshore jack-up exploration and testing platforms. Finally, this paper summarizes key research directions that merit focused attention in the field of wind turbine structural engineering, providing valuable references for research institutions and industry practitioners involved in the advancement of wind power technology.
