It has come to our attention that generative AI was used in the creation of the literature review in breach of Emerald's policies on AI and authorship and that the following referenced papers are fundamentally incorrect, hallucinated, or do not exist.The authors cooperated fully with the investigation but failed to address the concerns identified sufficiently. As a result, the findings of the article cannot be relied upon. Journal of Tourism Futures author guidelines make it clear that authors must be accountable for the accuracy of their work. The decision to retract has been informed by COPE's guidelines on retractions and Emerald's publishing ethics. The authors wish to emphasize that they take full responsibility for these unintentional errors. The publisher of the journal sincerely apologizes to the readers.
