Abstract

This paper extends the Participation Framework series by examining how continuity persists across generations. Rather than viewing continuity through ownership, growth, control, or expansion, the paper proposes Continuity Stewardship as an alternative model of long-term human participation. The paper introduces the concepts of: • Continuity Stewardship • Stewardship Without Ownership • Inherited Continuity • Gentle Obligation • Intergenerational Participation and explores how continuity may survive through transmission, maintenance, and temporary custodianship rather than permanent ownership. Drawing from observations of continuity-preserving cultures, hidden Christian communities in Nagasaki and the Goto Islands, craft transmission systems, and long-term community structures, the paper proposes that sustainable civilizations may require stewardship functions alongside innovation and growth. The paper extends: • Participation Continuity • Participation Economy • Quiet Infrastructure • Continuity Without Activation by examining continuity through the dimension of time. Keywords: Continuity Stewardship, Stewardship Without Ownership, Intergenerational Participation, Inherited Continuity, Gentle Obligation, Continuity Preservation, Participation Framework, Human Sustainability.
