Key Points

  • This research aims to investigate how the order of questions in an interview influences responses, particularly self-reported information.
  • Used alternate forms of interview schedules with systematically rotated sections.
  • Conducted a controlled assessment of responses to self-report and self-evaluation questions.
  • Responses to self-report questions were largely consistent regardless of the order in which they were presented.
  • No significant variation in self-evaluation outcomes was detected based on question order.

Abstract

The effects of question order were tested by using alternate forms of an interview schedule in which significant sections were systematically rotated. The major conclusion drawn from the data was that responses to questions such as those tested—questions of self-report and self-evaluation—are relatively unaffected by order of presentation.
