Abstract This survey describes the characteristics and activities of 20 memory clinics currently operating in the United Kingdom and Eire. There was broad agreement with regard to aims, objectives and general operating characteristics, but the clinics varied considerably in the number of patients assessed over a given period and in the proportion of cases diagnosed with dementia (15–98%) and Alzheimer's disease (9–80%) in the year prior to the survey.
