Key Points

  • The aim is to explore how magnetic gears can suppress torque ripple generated by switched reluctance motors.
  • Conducted a coupled analysis using reluctance network analysis and equivalent circuit model.
  • Emulated torque ripple inputs from switched reluctance motors for dynamic behavior investigation.
  • Demonstrated effective suppression of torque ripple in magnetic gears under large input conditions.
  • Confirmed enhanced dynamic performance compared to traditional systems.

Abstract

Magnetic gears have attracted great attention for transmitting torque without mechanical contact. It has been reported that magnetic gears do not transfer the large torque ripple generated by switched reluctance (SR) motors. In this paper, a coupled analysis using both a reluctance network analysis (RNA) model of a magnetic gear and an equivalent circuit model for motion equations is carried out to investigate the dynamic behavior under large torque ripple inputs emulating an SR motor.
