Abstract

Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) are widely used in various fields because of their compact size, high efficiency, and high output. From the viewpoint of improving the performance of PMSM drive systems including inverters, model predictive current control (MPCC) has been proposed as a motor control method that considers the voltage vectors available from the inverter. In addition, a flux-weakening control method is used to enable high-power operation. A conventional flux-weakening control method generates current reference values using the electrical parameters of the motor. Thus, when parameter variations occur, appropriate current reference values cannot be generated, resulting in a reduction of the operating range. This paper proposes a new feedback-type flux-weakening control method for MPCC of PMSMs. The proposed method determines current reference values by re-predicting current behavior. Moreover, the proposed flux-weakening control method is validated through simulations and experiments.
