Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been identified as a means capable of facilitating knowledge transfer and can promote education to an enviable position. However, lack of adequate knowledge, paucity of AI tools, poor funding, and low level of teachers’ disposition to AI among other factors, make pedagogical activity a difficult task. This has a far-reaching influence on teaching-learning processes. This study therefore, examined teachers’ knowledge and Disposition to Artificial Intelligence in Social Studies Instructions in Ogbomoso, Oyo State. A descriptive survey research method was employed for the study. A Researcher’s designed questionnaire tagged: Questionnaire on Teachers’ Knowledge of and Disposition to Artificial Intelligence in Social Studies Instructions (QTKDAISSI) was used. Findings of the study revealed that most of Social Studies teachers are aware of, have good knowledge of and possess positive disposition to AI and that there is no significant difference between the knowledge of and disposition to AI in Social Studies instructions between teachers who are teaching in urban and rural areas. Based on the findings, it was recommended that Social Studies teachers should maintain and improve their awareness, knowledge, disposition, and skills on AI and that teacher education curriculum in Nigeria should integrate AI and its tool for effective Social Studies instructions. Keywords: Artificial Intelligence, Disposition, Instructions, Social Studies, Teachers’ Knowledge.
