Key Points

  • To develop a method for measuring rotor shaft eccentricity in induction motors using frequency modulation.
  • Utilized broadband frequency modulation of a sweep frequency generator for measurement.
  • Developed a device based on the nonuniform reluctance of the motor’s magnetic core.
  • Determined compression time and twist angles of the shaft under varying rotor eccentricity.
  • Effective measurement of rotor eccentricity achieved through frequency modulation.
  • Demonstrated correlation between eccentricity and air gap variations within the motor.
  • Provided insights into shaft dynamics based on compression and twist angles.

Abstract

An approach is proposed for measuring the rotor eccentricity of an induction motor by broadband frequency modulation of a sweep frequency generator. The functional structure of the device is developed on the basis of the nonuniform reluctance of the motor’s magnetic core associated with the nonuniform air gap. The compression time and twist angles of the shaft are determined for different rotor eccentricity.
