A total of 58 patients with metastatic germinal cell tumors of the testis were treated according to 5 cancer chemotherapeutic regimens (1958-1968). Twenty-three objective responses (> 50%) and lasting more than one month were obtained. Seven patients had complete remissions. Three of these are alive and well (2-10 years) and have no evidence of disease. One, alive and well for more than 2 years, has a single nodule, shown on a chest roentgenogram, which presumably is not an active tumor. One patient with a complete remission had a relapse of disease and died 18 months after the start of therapy. Two patients with complete remissions are alive 3 months and 14 months after the onset of remission, respectively. Eight of 17 patients with soft part sarcomas (4 of 5 with rhabdomyosarcoma) had objective responses. One of these was a complete response, of > 26 months' duration.
