Abstract

This article reports on a qualitative study with 15 lesbian elders that explored their perceptions of aging in Vermont. Three broad themes were identified as having an impact on the aging process of these lesbian women: self-reliance mediated by interdependence, the state as context, and social supports. Implications for social work education and practice are presented.
