Previous research has neglected an important area of inquiry, the relationship of religiosity and psychological well-being. The present study attempts to rectify this deficiency. It examines this relationship using data from the 1972-1982 NORC General Social Survey (Davis, 1972). Focusing on the issue of race, the sample was broken down into blacks and whites. Religiosity was found to be a better predictor of well-being than previous research had indicated. Religiosity did especially well in predicting the well-being of black men and women.
