Plot ND6, Temple Quay, Bristol: Archaeological Evaluation

The fieldwork comprised the excavation of two evaluation trenches, measuring approximately 20m in length and 2m in width. In the event, Trench 1 required on-site adjustment due to the location of the site entrance, and c. 6m of the trench could not be excavated. The two halves of the resulting trench are referred to as Trench 1A and Trench 1B henceforth. An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in October and November 2017 on land known as Plot ND6, Temple Quay, Bristol. Two evaluation trenches were excavated and two geotechnical trial pits were monitored during the course of the evaluation. Post-medieval clay extraction pits were identified within the western area of site, potentially relating to brick manufacture in the area in the 17th century. Post-medieval structural remains were identified within each of the excavated trenches, and these relate to 18th and 19th-century residential and industrial buildings shown on historic mapping. A significant degree of modern truncation was evident within the northern area of site, and modern made-ground sealed the archaeological remains
