Key Points

  • This research aims to identify new ultracool dwarf candidates in the solar neighborhood, addressing gaps in the current astronomical catalog.
  • Data mining of the Gaia Data Release 3 catalog using astrometric and photometric ADQL queries.
  • Rigorous visual vetting of identified candidates to confirm their likelihood as ultracool dwarfs.
  • Identified 6 new ultracool dwarf candidates not previously cataloged in SIMBAD or VizieR.

Abstract

The census of the solar neighborhood remains incomplete, particularly at the faint, ultracool end of the stellar main sequence and substellar regime (late M, L, and T dwarfs). In this research note, I report the identification of 6 new, highly probable ultracool dwarf candidates. The objects were discovered via data mining of the Gaia Data Release 3 (DR3) catalog using strict astrometric and photometric ADQL queries, followed by rigorous visual vetting. None of these sources are currently cataloged in SIMBAD or VizieR as confirmed astronomical objects.
