How open innovation and data sharing can advance the deployment and operation of offshore energy and storage

In this key-note presentation at the OSES2026 conference, I talked about how open innovation and data sharing can advance the deployment and operation of offshore energy and storage. I talked about: Digitalisation is about creating value from data. Through interviews with practitioners, we found that key needs are introducing common vocabulary and data models, fostering a digital organisational culture and digital skills, and providing platforms or opportunities to innovate together. The WeDoWind open innovation ecosystem attempts to address these needs by providing a platform to share data and code, and to work on common vocabularies and recommendations for sharing data, and to solve data-related industry problems collaboratively. WeDoWind is being expanded to WeDoEnergy, which focuses on general energy-related topics including offshore energy systems and storage.
