  • Enhancing early collaboration among project participants is emphasized as important

Abstract

This study explores the key factors for reducing carbon emissions in the construction industry through prefabricated concrete structures. Employing a mixed-methods approach that combined literature review with questionnaire data from 114 industry professionals, the research identified and ranked 26 key factors using exploratory factor analysis and the relative importance index (RII). The findings indicate that promoting standardized/modular design to reduce component varieties and waste (RII = 89.12%) is the most critical factor. This is followed by cultivating professionals with low-carbon design skills and enhancing early collaboration among project participants. The study provides empirical evidence and decision-making support for the low-carbon transition of China’s construction industry, aligning with national “dual carbon” goals and global sustainability trends.
