Comment on “Primary Dimensions”

GBGerhard BuchallaOCOscar CatàACAlejandro Celis

Key Points

  • This paper critiques the concept of primary dimensions in the context of chiral Lagrangians, highlighting its inconsistencies.
  • Discusses the notion of primary dimensions and its role in effective field theories.
  • Analyzes previous literature addressing power counting in chiral Lagrangians.
  • Examines the electroweak chiral Lagrangian and its power counting methodology.
  • Confirms that primary dimensions are inconsistent as a principle for organizing chiral Lagrangians.
  • Emphasizes the need for proper power counting based on loop orders in effective field theories.

Abstract

Abstract We show that the concept of primary dimensions , first introduced in 1 as an organizing principle for chiral Lagrangians, is inconsistent. Although this had been pointed out already in 2, the notion of primary dimensions has re-appeared in recent literature. We briefly comment on the proper power counting for such effective field theories, including the electroweak chiral Lagrangian with a light Higgs, which is based on chiral dimensions, equivalent to the counting of loop orders.
