Abstract

Financial prowess extends beyond basic financial literacy. It encompasses a multidimensional set of competencies, including financial knowledge, attitudes, behavioral patterns, confidence, autonomy in decision-making, and the ability to effectively use digital financial tools. In the context of urban India, these dimensions are particularly relevant, as individuals are increasingly required to navigate complex financial products, volatile markets, and technology-driven platforms. Urban women, especially those who are educated, occupy a unique position within this evolving financial landscape. On one hand, they possess higher exposure to formal education, digital infrastructure, and employment opportunities. On the other hand, socio-cultural norms, family expectations, and gendered roles continue to influence their financial behavior and authority. In many households, major financial decisions are still made jointly or by male family members, limiting women’s control over savings, investments, and long-term planning, even when they contribute significantly to household income. Bengaluru, as a major metropolitan and economic hub, offers an ideal setting to examine these dynamics. The city is characterized by a diverse workforce, high levels of digital penetration, and access to a wide range of financial services. Yet, the extent to which educated women in such an environment translate opportunity into financial empowerment remains underexplored.
