The Martinez Unified Theory of Mythic Authority: Power, Legitimacy, Sovereignty, and Ethical Reopening Across Human, Machine, Institutional, and Metaphysical Domains

This conceptual paper introduces the Martinez Unified Theory of Mythic Authority (MUTMA), a cross-domain framework for analyzing how human beings, machines, institutions, archives, creators, and supernatural figures acquire legitimized power to define reality, identity, memory, morality, belonging, suffering, salvation, and death. It identifies five domains of authority—material, informational, psychological, moral, and metaphysical—and traces authority through capability, interpretation, legitimation, dependency, institutionalization, sovereignty, and either mythic closure or ethical reopening. The theory unifies four previously developed formations: technological authority in the machine institution, Predatory Institutional Gothic, Promethean Authority, and the Responsible Bearer. It also incorporates the Martinez Mythotechnic Dark Leadership Taxonomy, Greek mythic structures, memory and archival ethics, artificial intelligence, consciousness, soul, spirit, God, the Trinity, and Thomistic distinctions concerning law, the common good, and divine being. The paper develops twelve foundational principles, ten mechanisms of mythic authority, eight practices of ethical reopening, and fifteen research propositions. It argues that mythic authority becomes dangerous when its descriptions become inescapable and concludes that legitimate authority must preserve refusal, testimony, plural memory, accountability, correction, and meaningful avenues of appeal.
