Abstract

Unlike the ordinary Hall effect, the nonlinear Hall effect (NLHE) can occur in time-reversal-invariant metals lacking inversion symmetry. The authors uncover that two disorder-mediated corrections to the NLHE, namely, the nonlinear side jump and the nonlinear skew scattering, can be as large as the intrinsic Berry curvature dipole contribution. These findings will help to understand recent experiments searching for NLHE in various materials. They also offer a description of the role of disorder in current rectification in materials without inversion symmetry that could be relevant for wireless energy harvesting technology.
