Abstract

A simple multiferroic composite with a single period of 1-3-type structure, consisting of one Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 (PZT) rod embedded in a Terfenol-D/epoxy mixture, is reported. The coupling interaction between this PZT rod and the surrounding mixture produces a giant magnetoelectric response (see figure) of ca. 500 mV cm–1 Oe below 40 kHz and over 18 V cm–1 Oe at resonance frequency.
