Key Points

  • The study aims to explore the interplay between modular forms, Ramanujan's contributions, and modern developments in number theory and analysis.
  • Analyzed Ramanujan's tau function and its properties.
  • Investigated Eichler-Shimura theory and Galois representations linked to modular forms.
  • Examined mock modular forms and their connections to partition functions and quantum invariants.
  • Ramanujan's tau function reveals deep connections between number theory and modular forms.
  • Eichler-Shimura theory establishes a correspondence between modular forms of specified weights and Galois representations.
  • New insights into mock modular forms provide extensions to classical theta functions, enhancing connections with partition theory.

Abstract

FINDING: Modular forms bridge number theory and complex analysis via Ramanujan's 1916 work, Eichler-Shimura theory (1950s), and new connections to mock modular forms, differential equations, and critical L-values of sporadic sequences. MATH: - Ramanujan's tau function τ (n) from Δ (q) = q ∏₍=₁^∞ (1 - qⁿ) ²4 = Σ τ (n) qⁿ, with τ (n) multiplicative and satisfying τ (p) ≡ 1 + p¹1 mod 691 (congruence). - Eichler-Shimura: Modular forms of weight k correspond to Galois representations; Hecke operators Tₚ act on cohomology. - Atkin-Swinnerton-Dyer congruences: For noncongruence modular forms, Fourier coefficients satisfy p-adic congruences modulo pᵏ. - Zagier's interpolation: Apéry numbers for ζ (3) expressed as critical L-value of weight-4 modular form; six sporadic sequences linked to L-values. - Mock modular forms: Higher-depth averaging (Nazaroglu) extends Ramanujan's mock theta functions, with Fourier coefficients related to partition functions and quantum invariants. - Di Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK.
