Abstract

Abstract The rabbit spinal cord was transected in the upper thoracic region. Below the lesion the noradrenaline disappeared almost completely between the third and seventh day after the operation. The 5‐hydroxytryptamine was depleted between the fifth and seventh day. The disappearance of these amines was much slower than that of the noradrenaline in the rabbit iris after excision of the superior cervical ganglion. There was no significant increase of the monoamine levels above the transection of the spinal cord.
