Abstract

A proteolytically activated, cyclic nucleotide-independent protein kinase was identified and isolated from the postribosomal supernatant of rabbit reticulocytes using mixed histone as substrate.Protease-activated kinase I (PAK I) was unique in that protein kinase activity was observed following mild proteolytic digestion with trypsin.A lack of stimulation by CAMP and resistance of the proteolytically activated form to inhibition by the heat-stable inhibitor protein of the CAMP-dependent protein kinase indicated that PAK I was not a CAMP-dependent protein kinase; in addition,
