Key Points

  • To critically evaluate the theoretical compatibility, ontological foundations, and physical formalization of Hugang Cui's elastic spacetime lattice model in dialogue with the Theory of Objectivity.
  • Conducted a critical-propositional comparative analysis between Cui's spacetime substantivalism and the modal axioms, phenomenic elements, and cosmogonic theorem of the Theory of Objectivity.
  • Assessed the physical analogy mapping Einstein's field equations to Hooke's law, gravitational waves to lattice stress waves, and the gravitational constant to material stiffness.
  • Demonstrated that modeling spacetime as an elastic constitutive medium aligns with the Theory of Objectivity regarding concepts of substrate, tension, radiation, and information propagation.
  • Identified critical ontological divergences, noting that Cui assumes an already constituted physical lattice whereas the Theory of Objectivity requires the modal anteriority of logical Nothing.
  • Determined that the analogy between Einstein's field equations and Hooke's law remains heuristic and requires stronger dimensional, constitutive, and experimental formalization.

Abstract

This article presents a critical–propositional analysis of Hugang Cui’s Spacetime Substantivalism 46: The Elastic Nature of the Universe Confirmed by Gravitational Waves — From Hooke’s Law to Spacetime Lattice Dynamics, published on Zenodo in 2026 under DOI https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.20710886, in dialogue with the Theory of Objectivity (TO), especially its modal axioms, phenomenic elements, Inducer Effects, cosmogonic theorem, and cosmological Eras. Cui’s article proposes a transition from the geometrical phenomenology of general relativity to a substantial constitutive theory of spacetime, interpreting Einstein’s field equations as a macroscopic form analogous to Hooke’s law for an elastic spacetime medium. From this perspective, gravitational waves are stress waves in a substantial lattice, the gravitational constant expresses the material stiffness of spacetime, and time corresponds to the stepping frequency or logical update of the universe’s constitutive protocol. The present analysis argues that Cui’s proposal has strong dialogical potential with TO, especially because it brings back into the center of theoretical physics the notions of substrate, tension, limit, boundary, propagation, information, and radiation. However, important tensions are also identified: Cui begins his ontology from an already constituted lattice, whereas TO requires the modal anteriority of the logical Nothing and of Absolute Truths; furthermore, the analogy between Einstein’s equation and Hooke’s law is fertile and heuristic, but still demands stronger dimensional, constitutive, and experimental formalization. The article concludes that Cui’s work occupies a high position of dialogue with TO, since it offers a physical–constitutive language compatible with several phenomenic developments of the theory, although it does not yet reach the original modal foundation required by TO.
