Abstract

The cover picture shows emission colors of crystals of a series of 2,5-diarylsiloles (the structure of one is shown in the lower right-hand corner) under the irradiation of light at 365 nm. Their properties, such as fluorescence, and their electronic structures can be tuned over a wide range by the appropriate choice of the aryl groups at the 2- and 5-positions. Advantageously, this structural modification can be readily achieved by the one-pot synthesis of the 2,5-diarylsiloles from bis(phenylethynyl)silanes, as shown in the upper left-hand corner. These siloles are promising as new materials for organic electroluminescent devices. This work is described in more detail by K. Tamao et al. on p. 1683 ff. Magnified Cover Picture
