Abstract

Three batches of polyherbal tablets were prepared by using the same ingredients as mentioned under Bhaisajya Ratnavali. Each tablet contains Vernonia anthelmintica, Curcuma longa, Piper longum, Mallotus philippinensis, Operculina turpethum, Terminalia chebula, Butea monosperma, and Red ochre. It was prescribed for the treatment of parasitic worms. Pharmacognostical study counting both macroscopic and powder microscopy of raw drug showed the authentication of all constituents within the standard range. Tablet has been formulated using wet granulation method. The pH of the tablet was found to be slightly acidic. The average weight was 503 mg, average thickness was 5.85 mm and hardness was 3.6. Thin layer chromatography analysis in two different mobile phases showed various prominent bands at different Rf values.
