Abstract

A clearer picture of the myocardial changes associated with hypertension is emerging from experiments in which it was possible to reverse left ventricular hypertrophy by means of drugs. Also described in the final article of the hypertension series are studies that define a direct (as well as hemodynamic) role for the heart in this condition - as a source of pressor reflexes that increase peripheral resistance.
