Abstract

VITAMIN B12 is widely used in medical practice, numerous reports having appeared that bear testimony to its therapeutic efficacy in such widely divergent conditions as trigeminal neuralgia,1 herpes zoster,2 subnormal growth of children,3 hepatitis,4 certain skin diseases5 and various neuropathies other than combined-system disease.6 As a rule the amounts employed have been very large, usually 1000 microgm. given parenterally at frequent intervals. Since the favorable results have usually been based on the fact that the patients improved concomitantly with the administration of the vitamin it is difficult to assess the mechanism of action or rationale for its use.
