Abstract

SEALS, D. R. Habitual exercise and the age-associated decline in large artery compliance. Exerc. Sport Sci. Rev., Vol. 31, No. 2, pp. 68–72, 2003. The compliance of the large elastic arteries in the cardiothoracic circulation declines with age, causing a number of adverse effects on cardiovascular function and disease risk. Recent findings indicate that regular aerobic exercise may favorably modulate age-associated decreases in central arterial compliance and the related adverse physiological and pathophysiological consequences.
