Abstract

he concept of regenerative medicine using the body's own stem cells and growth factors to repair tissues may become a reality as new basic science works and initial clinical experiences have "teamed-up" in an effort to develop alternative therapeutic strategies to treat the diseased myocardium. In particular, revealing the signals that mediate cellular growth and differentiation may provide novel tools designed for myocardial regeneration in patients sustaining ischemic cardiomyopathy syndromes. We attempt herein to provide a critical overview of recent developments of myocardial cell transplantation strategies.
