In the article, the author deals with the issue of competence-based approach in vocal pedagogy. The profile competencies of an academic singer in their professional activity are investigated. The competencies of the general profile and the competencies of the subject specialization (auditory abilities, the presence of musical memory, the management of one’s performing apparatus, etc.) are highlighted. Competencies at various levels are considered: from the initial (setting the singing apparatus and breathing) to the professional (solving artistic and performing tasks). Based on the above, we will identify the main special (professional) competencies of the vocalist: well-coordinated work of motor and coordination automatisms of the vocal apparatus; mastery of resonant singing skills without forcing sound; self-control of resonators; wide and uniform singing range in timbre aspect; clear diction and articulation; purity and stability of singing intonation; developed inner hearing and pre-hearing skill.
