He received his MD and Dr. med. degrees from the University of Bern in Switzerland and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Bern, Mayo Clinic, and University of Maryland. He has held faculty positions at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, Loyola University Chicago, and Rush University, with research focusing on calcium regulation and signaling in the cardiovascular system.
