ABSTRACT Introduction: It is evident that sports impact social inclusion, especially in ethnic-sensitive multidisciplinary and multicultural educational environments. This research assessed the effects of sport involvement on social inclusion for health and nonhealth students studying at a university. It aimed to assess the effect of sports on relationships, group work, and the general sense of belonging students have within diversified academic groups. Methodology: A cross-sectional survey design was adopted from a population of 120 university students (60 allied health and 60 nonhealth students) using stratified random sampling. A validated social inclusion questionnaire that measured perceptions of inclusion, level of sports participation, and level of intergroup activity was issued to the participants. Quantitative and qualitative data analysis were performed using descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test, and thematic analysis SPSS v27. Results: Both groups of patients, that is, allied health and nonhealth students, reported high levels of social inclusion in relation to sports participation. Allied Health students had a slightly higher score than nonhealth students in terms of peer collaboration and team participation (M = 4.3, standard deviation SD = 0.51) versus (M = 4.0, SD = 0.63), but the difference was not statistically significant P > 0.05. Sports were an effective means of social inclusion and improved social integration and mutual understanding across different disciplines. Discussion: The evidence collected substantiates the assumption that sports help in fostering interaction among peers, breaking down social silos, and promoting collaborative learning activities. This corresponds to previous studies which highlight the importance of physical participation in inclusive education settings. Out of all the disciplines, sports were able to break down walls of understanding and recognition, fostering an integrated culture within the campus. Conclusion: The findings of this research affirm that sports are an important factor in socializing students from different academic disciplines and incorporating them into a single unified society. Strategic action is needed from institutions to use sports as a tool for building community and interdisciplinary contact while monitoring the social disconnection among students. It is suggested that additional studies be undertaken to evaluate the impact and inclusive policies of sports on social integration over time.
