The Head teacher as a leader of the School Unit: aspects of his role, effectiveness and the shaping of the school culture. Research in secondary education in Karditsa Country

The image of an ordinary school principal in the eyes of the teachers was researched, as well as, to what extent this image corresponds to the notion of a leader – principal. Finally, the teacher’s degree of awareness and knowledge concerning the notion of a leader – principal, as a universal notion that includes all the aspects of a leader – principal. The research has shown, on the one hand that only half of the teachers included in it, are fully aware of the notion of the leader – principal, and on the other, it has shown ordinary school principals whose image seems to correspond to a great extent to an ideal image of the school principle – leader in the educational system. It has also indicated that a particular pattern concerning school leadership in Greek educational system is increasingly highlighted, where the aspect of cooperation between the principal and the teachers is obvious.
