Teachers, whilst performing their role, are subject to work conditions that entail intense stress, and often experience burn out. The first studies focused on work stress and burn out were carried in 1974 by the American psychiatrist Freudenberger and the social psychologist Maslach. In this work, we present a detailed study of the conditions that cause stress, the challenges and the particularities of the teachers’ role. The aim of this work is to investigate and present the factors that cause work stress in elementary school teachers. This study was carried out in public elementary schools of the region of Serres. Preliminary results were collected by using questionnaires. A questionnaire, which was based on thorough literature review and identification of the factors that cause stress, highlighted in other studies (Antoniades, 2013, Mouzoura 2005), was used as a research tool to identify the sources of work stress in teachers. For the statistical analysis, the SPSS package was used.
